La Boca owners Steven López and Elizabeth Rice met in 2005 on the job in an Old Town Alexandria, Virginia restaurant. There they discovered that they shared a love of cooking, eating, laughing and life. They were married in 2011.

From the early days of their courtship, the two got great joy from planning and executing a meal, and collaborating to create the very best plates. It was in these years that they decided their obsession with cooking might someday become a business, one they determined must be named "La Boca" (in Spanish it means the mouth) - the very starting point of taste.

On July 5, 2012 La Boca first opened its doors as a bakery inside the Mill Street Meat Market in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Since then, La Boca has grown into a lunch and dinner restaurant, and a specialty shop that features a number of Liz & Steven’s house-made ingredients, custom cakes and more.

Amidst all the work that goes into owning a small business, and all the satisfaction that living their art provides, these two chefs have also welcomed two daughters into their life: Vida in 2016 and Nima in 2019. Both are certified taste-testers.
